Our Community

We are located in the heart of the Bristol Bay region located at the base of the Aleutian Peninsula in Southwest Alaska. We proudly serve the communities of the Bristol Bay Borough municipality: King Salmon, Naknek, and South Naknek.

Our villages serve as primary hubs for our entire region which is predominantly populated with Alutiiq/Sugpiaq, Dena’ina and Yup’ik tribe members. Our Borough, the Bristol Bay Borough, is located in Southwest Alaska, and known as the “Red Salmon Capital of the World” as well as the “Gateway to Katmai National Park and Preserve.”

Strong runs of returning Sockeye (Red) Salmon continue to make our borough part of the largest Red Salmon fishery in the world. Main industries include commercial and sports fishing, travel and tourism, and other businesses that support these industries, residents and visitors to the Bristol Bay Borough. The King Salmon Airport is the travel hub to Katmai National Park and villages in the surrounding area.

In the Spring and Summer, you will find the local landscape blooming with wildflowers and an abundance of wildlife. In the Fall, the tundra is a berry picker’s delight with a variety of berries, including Blueberries, Lingonberries (Low Bush Cranberries), Cloudberries (Salmonberries), Crowberries (Blackberries), and more. Waterfowl, raptors, and migratory birds can be observed throughout the Borough, and at times beluga whales are known to chase their dinner up the Naknek River. Bristol Bay is located on the Alaskan Peninsula on Kvichak Bay, a small arm of Bristol Bay.
